PURPOSE:To bend a plate material at a desired prearranged place and a desired posture without revolving it on the horizontal surface by combining a 1st manipulator with a 2nd one which can rotate the plate material freely in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction. CONSTITUTION:After the plate material is grasped by a 1st plate material grasping means 75 of the 1st manipulator 3, the plate material can be turned by turning this 1st plate material grasping means 75 to 1st supporting means 55, 73 round the axis parallel to the X-axis direction. Or, after the plate material is grasped by the 2nd plate material grasping means 159 of the 2nd manipulator 5, the plate material can be rotated by turning an arm means 137 setting the 2nd plate material grasping means 159 by 180 deg. round an axis parallel to the Y axis direction. Consequently, combination of these two turning actions can invert the inside and the outside of the plate material round the axis intersecting at right angles with the lengthwise direction of the die. As a result, in bending of the plate material, the right and the left of the plate material can be changed easily in a small space in front of a plate material bending machine.
