PURPOSE: To make it possible to detect a previously occurred parity error by inverting the succeeding parity bit to be transmitted when the presence of an improper parity is detected by parity checking. CONSTITUTION: During the course of parity checking, a result bit having a binary value of '0' is always supplied when the parity is proper provided that the parity is the expected 1-bit parity of a first parity generator P1. When the parity is improper, a result bit having a binary value of '1' is supplied. Consequently, when the parity of an incoming binary code word is improper, the parity bit of the corresponding code word to be read out of a memory and transferred is inverted. Therefore, since the code word which is transferred together with the parity bit has an improper parity, the code word can be detected and recorded at a minor exchange.
