EXTRACT OF MANDEVILLA PENTLANDIANA USEFUL AS ANTI-BRADIKININ AGENT

PURPOSE: To obtain a bradykinin antagonist comprising an extract of Mandevilla pentlandlana and useful for treating pain, inflammation, contraction of smooth muscle or congestion. CONSTITUTION: Mandevilla pentlandlana, preferably ground plant structure of rhizome, root, tuber, etc., is pulverized in an organic or aqueous solvent and the resultant liquid is separated from a solid plant substance to afford a crude extract, which is as necessary, subjected to extraction, distillation, crystallization, chromatography and their's combination to provide a purified extract. A mixture comprising 80% ethanol, 20% water and ethyl acetate is especially preferably used as the solvent system. A pharmaceutical composition contains preferably 0.0005-20wt.% extract, especially preferably 0.1-1.0wt.% crude extract or 0.005-0.5wt.% purified extract as a unit administration form.
