MANUFACTURE OF ACID-CONTAINING ALUMINIUM OXIDE GYDRATE,SAID HYDRATE FOR USE IN PRODUCING TRANSPARENT CERAMIC PRODUCT AND TRANSPARENT CERAMIC PRODUCT

PURPOSE: To form acid-contg. aluminum oxide monohydrate for production of transparent ceramic products by subjecting aluminum alkoxide to peptisization and hydrolysis by a mixture composed of steam and acid vapor, adding water to the distillation residue thereof and heating and drying the same. ;CONSTITUTION: The aluminum alkoxide is added to a solvent (isopropyl alcohol, etc.), and is subjected to the peptisization and hydrolysis by the mixture composed of the steam and the acid (preferably acetic acid). The solvent and all the by-products which may be distilled are removed and the water is added to the remaining residue. The residue is heated until a uniform gel is obtd., by which the gel having the aluminum oxide monohydrate contg. 12.5 to 25 wt.% bonded acid is formed. The gel is then dried. The dry gel is noncontactually pulverized to fineness of about 2 μ in average and is processed, by which the transparent ceramic products are produced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
