PRODUCTION OF QUICK-CURABLE, AMMONIA-FREE SOLID RESOL RESIN

PURPOSE:To easily obtain the title resin prevented from gelling, good in storage stability by incorporating the reaction system, at any point after initiation of the condensation, with a second phenol more reactive than the phenol as a raw material. CONSTITUTION:After initiation of condensation between (A) a phenol (e.g., phenol, cresol) and (B) an aldehyde (e.g., formaldehyde glyoxal) as two raw materials for a solid resol resin, the reaction system is incorporated, at any point, with (C) a second phenol or naphthol more reactive than the component A followed by reaction, normally at 60-120 deg.C. Subsequently, the resulting reaction mixture is dehydrated and condensed, thus obtaining the objective resin. The component C is e.g., resorcin, beta-naphthol in case the component A is phenol.
