PURPOSE:To improve utilization effect by enabling an automatic answering telephone set to answer to incoming immediately even when it is turned on after its bell has rung, by checking the remaining amount of a tape for reception only when an operation switch at a stop position is operated manually to an automatic position. CONSTITUTION:When switches RS-1 and RS-2 are switched manually from positions STOP to positions AUTO, the charge of a capacitor C1 is applied to a TR-2 to drive a driving motor M2 for a tape T-2 for reception for a short time. When the remaining amount of the tape T-2 is less, intervals of pulse generation from a capacitor C2 by a rotary magnet 4 and a reed switch 5 are shortened, so the voltage of an IC-4 rises to set an IC-4, turning on and off an LED. During a check on the remaining amount, the enable terminal E of a ringing amplifier 1 is held at level L by the output L of an IC-2, and consequently no incoming is accepted. Therefore, an incoming signal is accepted after the check on the remaining amount ends to send answer words from the answer tape T-1 and also to record a voice from the opposite subscriber on a tape for reception.
