PURPOSE:To recognize an operation mode automatically from the operation state of a specific receiver which is normal in each operation mode, and improve the operativity of the equipment by providing a telephone set with a means which detects the on-hook and off-hook states and a network controller with an operation mode control circuit, etc. CONSTITUTION:The network controller NCU3 is connected to the facsimile part 1 of the facsimile equipment through an MODEM2, and an automatic dial device 5 is connected to this NCU3. A telephone set 6 having a hook state sensor 7 is connected to this NCU3, and an exchange 9 is connected through a line 8. The operation mode control circuit 4 provided to this NCU3 is actuated with a dial command from the facsimile part 1 and the circuit 4 checks the output of the sensor 7. When the telephone set is in the off-hook state at this time, the circuit 4 selects a call mode, and when in the on-hook state, whether an original is present or not at the facsimile part 1 is checked; when the original is set, an automatic transmission mode is selected, thus improving the operativity of the device.
