PURPOSE:To cast an Mg alloy having superior characteristics such as impact force, elastic force, etc., by mixing trace amounts of metallic Na with a molten alloy for Mg-Al-Zn castings. CONSTITUTION:The metallic Na is mixed with the molten metal for alloy castings mainly composed of Mg, Al and Zn by traces of about 0.1-2%. Then casting is carried out by use of the above molten metal by the ordinary method, when crystalline nuclei are formed around metallic Na seeds and these crystalline nuclei are bonded each other so that the metallic structure forms into honeycomb construction. In this way, Mg-type castings having improved mechanical characteristics such as impact force, elastic force, etc., can be obtained.
