PURPOSE:To increase a combustion load and to enable to perform a steady surface combustion, by a method wherein a flame holding wire net is mounted to an end, of a porous body forming a combustion surface, at a side where the porous body is coupled to a burner body, and in the proximity of the outside of the coupling. CONSTITUTION:A surface combustion burner is constituted such that a burner body 2 mates the outside of an upper end of a toroidal punching metal 1, and meanwhile, a cover body 3 engages the outside of the lower end thereof and a toroidal wire net 4 mates the outer periphery surface of said metal 1 in a manner that they are secured to each other by the burner body 2 and the cover body 3. In which case, a toroidal flame holding wire net 5, which has, for example, mesh being coarser than that of the toroidal wire net 4 and measures about 2mm. in width, mates the outside of the end, where it is connected to the burner body 2, of the toroidal wire net 4. A device is constituted such that a surface combustion is conducted on a combustion surface while a mixture gas of fuel gas with combustion air is being jetted from the combustion surface. This permits increasing of a combustion load and simultaneously enables to obtain a steady combustion without no lift of flame even if a primary air excessive rate is raised.
