PURPOSE:To eliminate a defective article by detecting the combination state by transferring a container cover by holding it in a fixed position by providing the container over selecting means having a container holding means, ring detecting means and container cover excluding means on the forming device of a container cover with a pull ring. CONSTITUTION:The container selecting means 18 provided on the device to combine to a container cover simultaneously with forming a metal made ring transfers a container cover with a pull ring by holding it surely to the container cover holding means. The area of the ring combining part of the container cover with pull ring is then detected correctly by holding the position of the container cover in a detection zone K. And in case of the detection signal being out of the prescribed range, the control means outputs an abnormal signal to eliminate the container cover from the container cover holding means.
