INPUT/OUTPUT ROUTE CONTROLLING SYSTEM AND INPUT/OUTPUT SUBSYSTEM

PURPOSE:To improve the performance of the input/output processing of an information processing system by selecting an optimum input/output route in accordance with the difference of characteristic among individual input/output routes. CONSTITUTION:For example, plural cartridge type magnetic tape devices (MT) 5 are connected to a channel device 2 through plural controllers 3 and 4 to constitute an input/output subsystem. There MTs 5 use magnetic tape cartridges as storage mediums for the purpose of reducing the size and the weight, and data buffers are provided in controllers 3 and 4 to transmit and receive data between MTs and the higher-order channel device 2 with plural block as a unit, that is, the advance read/collective write operation is performed. Thus, the response speed to an input/output instruction is increased.
