PURPOSE:To approximately discharge sediment by forcibly lifting a lifting rod, dropping the rod by gravity, opening a discharge valve when the rod is raised to an upper set position, and closing the valve when the rod is lowered to a lower set position. CONSTITUTION:A slurry is supplied to the precipitator 1 from a supply pipe 3. When a motor M is driven and a driving roller 10 is rotated, the lifting rod 8 sandwiched between the driving roller 10 and a receiving roller 11 is lifted by one half turn of the driving roller 10. The rod 8 is released from the driving roller 10 by the rotation of the notched part 10a of the driving roller 10, and dropped by gravity. When sediment is increased, the rod 8 falls to a higher position. When the lower end of the rod 8 comes down to position A, a stop valve 4 is manually opened. When the lower end of the rod 8 then comes down to position B, a discharge valve 5 is kept closed, and the discharge valve 5 is automatically opened when the rod 8 comes down to position C.
