A gas to be ozonised travels between at least two electrodes in the generator. The electrodes are fed with trains of a.c. voltages with an amplitude producing electronic discharges between the electrodes. The frequency of recurrence of the a.c. waves is such that the vol. of ozonised gas produced by one train is at least partly removed from the space between the electrodes before the next wave train is applied. Pref. the two generator electrodes are connected to the sec. of a transformer, the prim. of which is connected in a medium-frequency thyristor inverter provided with analogue gates and a master clock oscillator. With conventional ozone generators, only 4.5% of the electricity is used in mfg. ozone, the remainder being dissipated as heat and light etc. Arrangement provides a much higher yield, so mfg. costs are reduced.
