PURPOSE:To rightly lower the cutter head of a dredger by a method in which the actual position of the cutter head is compared with a set position, and according to the deviation between them, a swing which is controlled. CONSTITUTION:A controller consists of a swing winch controller 1, a swing wire loosening controller 2, a cutter head locus monitor 3 and a sensor 4. When lowering a cutter head, the positions of the cutter head obtained by the sensor 4 are compared with a preset position command sent out of the cutter head locus monitor 3 by the comparator 5 of the swing wire loosening controller 2. According the deviation obtained the comparison, a signal is sent out to the swing winch controller 1 to control the speed and torque of the swing winch 10. The cutter head can thus be rightly lowered vertically and effective dredging operation can be attained without excess excavation and imperfect excavation.
