PURPOSE:To produce glass fibers without using any harmful additives, by dropping fused glass in the circumferential part of a rotary disc under high speed rotation, discharging the same radially by the centrifugal force and solidifying the fused glass like fine wires by the gaseous flow injected from a nozzle right above the glass flow. CONSTITUTION:A vertical shaft 1 is revolved to rotate a rotary disc 4 which is mounted to said shaft and has 300-500mm. diameter at a high speed of =3,000r.p.m. The glass fused in a fusing furnace 10 is dropped through a nozzle 11 onto the disc 4, and is made into fine flow by the concentrical grooves 3 provided on the surface of the disc 4. This glass is released as fine flow 9a of the fused glass by the centrifugal force developed by the revolution of the disc 4. An annular burner 6 is provided above the disc 4 to heat the disc 4, thereby preventing the decrease in the fluidity of the fused glass on the disc 4 by cooling. Air or the like is injected onto the glass flow 9a which is released radially from a nozzle 15 right above the glass flow to form glass fibers 9C. The glass fibers are produced at high yields without using any harmful additives such as F and B for decreasing the m.p.
