PURPOSE:To enable continuous and automatic surface treatment by providing a pair of cap plates which open outward and locking-unlocking mechanism to the aperture in the peripheral cylindrical part of a rotary perforated vessel and discharging and charging the objects to be treated automatically from and into the vessel according to the rotation thereof. CONSTITUTION:This barrel for surface treatment is provided with the aperture 6A in the peripheral cylindrical part of the perforated vessel 1A and the neck edges of a pair of the cover plates 7A, 7B are respectively pivotally fitted to both edges thereof. The cap plate locking-unlocking mechanism is mounted between the cap plates 7A and 7B. The mechanism is formed of a detaining hook part 13A, detaining piece 8A and detaining hook part actuating mechanism. The barrel is rotated in the unlocking state of said unlocking mechanism while the objects to be treated are held contained in the barrel. The objects to be treated are thus discharged from the aperture 6A. The aperture 6A is put into the half open state as the aperture moves upward. The objects to be treated are charged into the barrel from the aperture in said position. The cover plates 7A, 7B are closed and locked when the barrel further rotates.
