PURPOSE:To drop a crop onto a carriage without any problem by operating a cutting machine to cut alternately the crop from both side ends and disconnecting finally the end parts remaining without being cut when said parts are positioned above the crop carriage. CONSTITUTION:A limit switch LS1 is actuated and a signal for commanding the start of cutting is transmitted to a cutting machine when said machine comes to a home position. A torch 1 of the cutting machine travels at a prescribed speed while cutting a crop 2 and when the torch arrives approximately at the central part of the crop 2, the fire is extinguished and while the cutting is once stopped, the torch is changed over to a fast feed speed. The cutting is resumed from the crop side end toward the central part at the same instant when the torch 1 is changed over to the return stroke beyond the one side end of the crop. The fire of the torch 1 is extinguished and the cutting is interrupted when the cut front end approaches to the slight space from the previously cut part. The cutting machine moves synchronously with a billet in this state and actuates a limit switch LS2 for starting the second cutting of the crop just before the carriage, thereby restarting the cutting of the part remaining without being cut. When the crop is separated in the central part, the crop falls onto the crop carriage.
