PURPOSE:To detect the concentration of the gaseous sulphur non-destructively and quantitatively on the spot without disturbing a system status by passing a monochromatic light in the vicinity of 290nm through a gaseous sulphur and finding the sulphur concentration on the basis of the ratio of the incident and transmitting intensities of the monochromatic light. CONSTITUTION:With the electric power of a heater 9 and the temperature in a measurement cell 8 adjusted, sulphur 11 in a vessel 10 is evaporated so that the cell 8 is filled with gaseous sulphur. The monochromatic light from the light emitting part 3 in the vicinity of 290nm is passed through the window 2 of the cell 8 to pass through the gaseous sulphur so as to be made incident through a window 5 on a light receiving part 4. The sulphur concentration is found from the ratio of the intensity I1 to the incident intensity I0 of the transmitted light.
