ACCENT PHRASE BOUNDARY GIVING SYSTEM FOR COMPOUND WORD

PURPOSE:To correctly set the boundary by subdividing a part of speech of a nominal noun system word, selecting one, based on a reference determined in advance from a combination of classified information and part-of-speech information of a word being adjacent to the nominal noun system word, and giving an accent phrase boundary thereto. CONSTITUTION:Character data is compared with a code table of a ROM 2 in an analyzing circuit 1 and divided into part-of-speech classification units, divided into word accumulating circuits of a noun system 4a, adjective noun system 4b and adverb noun system 4c, and a nominal noun system word is divided into five kinds in each sentence structural role and stored in an accumulating circuit 5. By selecting an optimum combination among combinations of a part of speech of the nominal noun system word and the adjacent word by a priority determining circuit 6, a boundary of an accent phrase can be set correctly even against a long compound word, and a natural pronunciation is obtained through a voice synthesizing circuit 8. Also, an optimum sentence structure to the adjacent word can be selected.
