COLORED METALLIC FLAKE PIGMENT, ITS PRODUCTION AND COATING, INK, COSMETIC AND PLASTIC MOLDING COMPOSITION CONTAINING SAME

摘要

PURPOSE:To produce the subject pigment having a silky gloss and excelling in hiding power, weathering resistance and chemical resistance by hydrolyzing a hydrolyzable organic titanate in an organic medium in a specified pH range to coat the surfaces of metallic flakes with deposited TiO2. CONSTITUTION:A hydrolyzable titanate of the formula (wherein R is a 2-10 C alkyl, and n is 1-10), e.g., tetraisopropoxy-titanium, is hydrolyzed in an organic medium (e.g., isopropanol) in a pH range of 4-8 to coat the surfaces of metallic flakes [e.g., flakes of Ti, Al or bronze (desirably, flat flakes of a mean particle diameter of 1-100mum and a thickness of 0.01-20mum]. Thus, a colored metallic flake pigment can be obtained, and this pigment can show various apparent colors by controlling the geometrical thickness of the coated TiO2; has a high- quality silky gloss, and is excellent in hiding power, weathering resistance, chemical resistance.
