PURPOSE: To advantageously obtain dimethyl ether directly from synthetic gas containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in a liquid phase by using a solid catalyst composed of a single catalyst or a plurality of catalysts suspended in a liquid medium within a three-phase (liquid phase) reactor system. ;CONSTITUTION: Synthetic gas consisting of H2, CO and CO2 is brought into contact with a solid catalyst composed of molded pellets containing both of a methanol synthesizing component and a dehydrating (ether forming) component or a powdery single catalyst or a mixture of a plurality of catalysts suspended in a liquid medium pref. under pressure of about 200-2000 psig, especially, about 400-1000 psig at about 200-350°C at a spatial speed exceeding 50 standard 1 of the synthetic gas per 1 kg of the catalyst in a three-phase (liquid phase) reactor system by a suspension air bubble system or a suspension bed system to directly obtain dimethyl ether from synthetic gas of a wide range of a kind economically in a high conversion ratio because of liquid phase operation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
