The method determines the organic material content of sediments from data recorded in a borehole by at least two logging probes measuring different parameters. …??The two probes are so chosen that one responds to a variation in the water content and the organic material content of rocks in the same direction while the other responds in a very different way to a variation in one or the other of these two constituents. They are also both chosen so that the lines I of constant content of organic material in a diagram with three end-members lie roughly on top of each other when the third end-member is either the water end-member PE or the clay end-member PA. The position of the line I(0%) is determined experimentally and, from this, the content of organic material corresponding to each pair of values of the parameters measured in the borehole is deduced.
