A process for packing a load into a box 16 in one or more layers, in which process the load is transferred with a pull/push motion to a lifting platform 5 which is located inside the box and which is movable in the vertical direction by means of one or more lifting arms 6. A process for unpacking a box 16, the load of which is packed in one or more layers, in which process the load is lifted by a lifting platform 5 which is located inside the box and which is movable in the vertical direction by means of one or more lifting arms 6 and is transferred with a pull/push motion from the lifting platform 5 to a point outside the box 16. The processes are realized such that the lifting platform 5, prior to the packing/unpacking, is inserted from the side into the box 16 through an opening 20 made in the lower edge of the side of the box, that one or more lifting arms 6 is/are fitted in or at least close to that edge of the lifting platform 5 which lies opposite the edge which is first inserted into the box 16, such that the lifting platform 5 can be raised/lowered inside the box 16, and that the lifting platform 5, following the packing/unpacking, is withdrawn from the box 16 through the opening 20.
