Hazardous nature of mainly bacterial matter infected, used, plastic laboratory ware (polystyrene, -methacrylate, polyethylene) is eliminated by standard process removal of infectious matter, followed by treatment with a dil. oxidising acid soln. for several minutes. Surfaces are rinsed to neutrality and the cleanliness is improved by sterilisation. A macromolecular coating is developed, opt. using collagen(during an ammonium-chloride, sterile airstream, u.v. treatment),. When acid treatment is no longer effective it is replaced by regranulation of the surfaces prior to applying further stages of the process.
