In prepn. of polymers, a mixt. of CO and an olefinically unsatd. cpd. is polymerised by contact, at raised temp. and pressure, with a compsn. contg. a soln. of a catalyst compsn. contg. Pd in a diluent in which the polymer is (almost) insol. The polymer prod. comprising Pd-contg. polymer particles with a range of particle size, is sepd., w.r.t. particle size, into (i) a Pd-rich by-prod. fraction contg. the smaller particles, and forming at least 10 wt.% of total polymer, and (ii) a Pd-lean main prod. fraction contg. the larger particles.
