The respirator control signals from the processor are also fed to a simulator unit (6). data from the two simulator units are exchanged and processed to produce simulated values (10) which are then displayed on another visual display (8). The simulated display can be accelerated to observe trends and to observe the effects of experimental changes without endangering the patient.
