A mobile appliance which supports, e.g. poles, parasols or a Xmas tree, has a base with three inwards sloping side walls (1) which at the corners enclose hinging arms (3) moving around horizontal spindles (2). Hinged arms have horizontal grooves (4) in which elastic cord (5) is looped around the hinged arms and clamped by balls (6) secured to the end of the cord. Equal triangular container may be of plastics/or metal, and may be filled with sand. Arms may have rubber sleeves to retain e.g. parasols or rods.
