An apparatus for removing the neck of a plucked decapitated bird comprises a stationary pressure means (9) and a neck receiving opening (8) that is movable relative to said pressure means. The distance between the pressure means, that preferably comprises a rod section (10), and an active part of the receiving opening, especially the rear edge (14) thereof, is such that only the neck skin can pass therethrough, whereas the neck vertebrae (15) of the bird will be separated from the neck skin. Preferably the neck receiving opening (8) is one of a series of recesses provided at the circumference of a rotating plate (7).
