The Doppler frequency of adjacent points on the earth (whose angular separation is being measured) is determined by using a filter device of narrow bandwidth. During analysis, the Doppler frequency is held at its initial value by modifying the transmitted radar oscillations frequency. The frequency change of the oscillator takes into account the speed of the aircraft, the range of the target and the angle between the speed vector and the target's direction. The radar frequency is given by a specified equation. The modification is superimposed on normal changes in the control loop. The angular resolution is held constant by changing the width of the filter's passband in conjunction with the direction of the antenna.
