MATTRESS-TYPE GABION FOR PRODUCING PROTECTIVE COVERING STRUCTURES TO BE USED ON SOIL SURFACES SUBJECT TO EROSION

ABSTRACTA "mattress-type" gabion is formed from panels ofwire netting to create a mesh container which can be filledwith stones, gravel or other ballast and then used toprevent erosion along river embankments, coastal areas etcetera. The bottom sheet includes transverse ribs formedby folding the bottom sheet at various points therealong,the folded ribs extending the full height of the basecontainer portion. In order to strengthen the ribs thetwo panels of each rib are joined together by a specifictwisting operation adjacent the fold line between eachrib panel and the bottom sheet of the base container.
