CIRCUIT COMBINING FUNCTIONS OF CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK CODE AND PSEUDO-RANDOM NUMBER GENERATORS

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA circuit is disclosed which combines thefunctions of a cyclic redundancy check code (CRCC)generator and a pseudo-random number generator in sucha way that common elements are shared rather thanduplicated. A 16-stage shift register and two linearfeedback paths are included for the CRCC and pseudo-random number generators. A control section of thecircuit controls the mode of operation of the circuitaccording to the state of a mode control signal. Asignal on a clear line resets the shift register orinitializes it with a selected value depending on thestate of the mode control signal. The mode controlsignal also controls the input of data on a data lineand the output of generated CRC and pseudo-randomaccess codes on output lines.
