ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA hydraulic actuator assembly for use in amold clamping unit of an injection molding machine.The actuator assembly serves as a rapid-travel drivefor mold opening and closing movements and as asource of elevated mold clamping pressure. Among thehydraulic elements contributing to the operation ofthe mold clamping unit are a power piston for effect-ing elevated mold clamping pressures and a drivepiston for effecting rapid die closing movements.With the hydraulic actuator system of the presentinvention, it is possible to control the operation ofthe mold clamping unit based on two-sided hydraulicinfluencing of the power piston and the drive piston.
