Abstract of the DisclosureMethods for reducing the trihalomethane contents for precursorthereof of influent water are disclosed. The methods comprise adding tothe influent water powdered activated carbon and a water soluble or waterdispersible cationic polymer. The polymers are chosen from: (a) poly-quaternary ammonium polymers formed from reaction of a secondary aminewith an epichlorohydrin or epoxide (b) cross-linked polyquaternary ammo-nium polymers formed from reaction of a secondary amine, epichlorohydrinor epoxide, and a third reactant selected from the group consisting ofammonia, primary amines, alkylenediamines and polyamines and (c) sub-stantially linear high molecular weight polyquaternary ammonium polymersof the type disclosed in U.S. Patent 3,288,770, such as polydiallyldi-methyl ammonium chloride.
