ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREDisclosed is a granular multi-cellular glassand a method for producing the same. An ordinarymulti-cellular glass grain having relatively lowmoisture content ratio was prepared as starlingmaterial. The glass grain is then dipped in water oralkali solution for eluting or dealkali treatment. Bythe dipping, soluble alkali components are mainlyeluted from a surface layer and cell walls of theglass grain. Thus produced multi-cellular glass grainprovides increased moisture content ratio because ofthe formation of micropores at the layer and cell wallportions. Disclosed also are control, of physicalproperties of the multi-cellular glass grain forcontrolling specific gravity, pore volume and porediameter thereof. By these controls, resultant glassgrain is provided with desirable physical propertiesavailable for a microcarrier for immobilizing microbetherein.
