ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing linear polyethylene of narrow molecular weight distribution by gas phase polymerization of ethylene alone or mixed with a comonomer in the presence of a catalyst formed by a catalytic component containing at least one transition metal, magnesium, a halogen and possibly an electron donor or acceptor and of a cocatalyst comprising an aluminum alkyl and an electron donor. This process is characterized in that the electron donor used in the cocatalyst is selected from the family of monoethers.
