DEVICE SUITABLE FOR USE IN CONJUNCTION WITH PASSENGER CARS FITTED WITH UIC-APPROVED TRACTION-AND-BUFFING DEVICES, AND WITH GENERAL APPLICATION TO ALL PASSENGER CARS
A device for use on passenger cars possessing UIC tractionand-buffing gear and floatably borne gangway parts that slide over each other. The device comprises an active retainingand-centering mechanism having elastic elements in the form of prestressed mechanical draw springs, pneumatic springs or as a flexible unit employing a fluid as the energy transfer medium. The device additionally comprises transmission elements preferably in the form of chains, cables, flex balls or Bowden cables. The device, when fitted to passenger gangways of passenger rail cars, serves as an active centering system that is constantly stressed in the direction transverse to the direction of travel, whereby laterally-offset gangway elements can be forced to return into congruency with each other, a position that remains stable for the greater part of curve travel.
