A tool with base plate (1) having upward curve (4) at the front has rotary bit (18) and smaller forward bit (48) both protruding through plate (1) and both driven by motor (14) through a gear train (36, 37 and 43, 45, 49). If the tool is pushed along by handle (8), e.g. between course of brickwork and bits (18 and 48) break up and clear a channel in which fresh mortar can later be placed. Dust and debris can be evacuated via duct (7a) to feasible duct (10) and collector filter container, not shown. Bit (48) is so mounted that it can be tilted, to protrude from its slot, at any angle up to 90° from its vertical position as shown. Thus it can be used as a forwardly protruding drill bit to drill out internal corners or other intricate structure.
