A method for continuously monitoring a moving yarn under formation and collection on a package (14) in a ring spinning machine, the method using a photoelectric or capacitive or piezoelectric transducer (2) positioned between the last pair of drafting rollers (8) and the underlying yarn guide element (4), or positioned to replace this latter, and a device for implementing this monitoring.
