This invention is about gab-maintaining block, namely backfill, for excavating works. Back-fill (8) is to be placed between a sheet pile (9), driven into bottom soil along the wall, and a Htype steel bar (10) laid along the sheet piles. A supporting bar is placed between a pair of H-type steel bar facing each other. The back-fill includes a pair of supporting plates facing each other. The space formed in between both supporting plates is adjustable by a mechanism formed with a cam and a slider. The cam is fixed on a supporting plate and the slider moves along the other supporting plate. A wedge-shape body (7) is wedged in the gab between the cam and the slider.
