The coiled plastics monofilament, to form the teeth of a sliding clasp fastener, together with a textile filler core is fed to the carrier band weaving point, so that the core is caught by the wefts. The core is held by the feed mechanism, which is directly in front of the weaving point, and the monofilament coil together with the core are subjected to a draw tension away from the feed unit. The coil and the core are fed into place so that they are laid on place and pressed against the carrier band being woven, and they are stretched so that there is no relative movement between the coil and the core while being woven onto place.
