To recover a maximum of the phosphorus which collects in developers or in water tanks during fabrication of glass envelopes for colour television tubes, the organic polymer chains are broken with an oxidant such as periodic acid and the phosphorus is washed with NaOCl in order to eliminate mineral pollutants such as Cr, Zn and Cd.
