The device is used esp. in arched mine gallery support systems. A channel in a monolithic cast steel unit contains a profile piece and has a bearing surface below it for the end face of the auxiliary prop. There are protrusions for turn-locking onto one of the segments. The supports are made up from resiliently stressed channel-shaped profile segments. At both ends the channel (48) has transverse ribs (32,33), protruding across the edge. These are cut away in conformity with the peripheral shape of the support profile, and form cams (52-55) protruding beyond the channel longitudinal edges which serve as parallel bearing faces for stem piece profiles.
