The thread-grinding machine has a device for relief-grinding the thread of work clamped onto the relief-grinder body of a slide moving in the lengthwise direction. A mechanism in the slide imparts a rocking transverse movement to the body, while the work is rotated and fed by the slide past the grinder disc, which is adjustable in the transverse direction. The body (5) has a feeler (17) bearing against a cam roller (15) in bearings in the slide (1). The roller axis is parallel to the direction of slide movement, and its surface is shaped so as to give cuts of different depth at right angles to this axis. Adjustment of the rocking strokes of the body is by sliding the roller axially, it being lockable in position.
