A roofing system exhibits a facia board 1, which is located on the eaves under the tiles 5, and a spacer element 8 which is inserted between the roofing tiles and the facia board. The element 8 includes a first part 9, which extends outwards from the facia board 1 and has downwardly directed ventilation openings which allow an air flow from outside the roof into the interior of the roof, and an upwardly directed free edge part 11 which forms a bearing for the roofing tiles 5, as a result of which the roofing tiles are spaced apart from the upper edge of the facia board. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the free edge part is secured detachably on the spacer element and may exhibit a comb-shaped filler piece which can be adapted to differently profiled roofing tiles.
