A contact element (50) (Figure 5) is described for the power connection of a switching cabinet push-in unit of a low-voltage switching installation to the busbar (42) of the switching cabinet, the contact element (50) being arranged in a contact housing (78), which is formed by the push-in unit (48), and the busbar (42) having a cover (36), in such a manner that, at the contact point, it is possible to push the contact element (50) and the contact housing (78) onto or into the busbar (42) or its housing cover (36) respectively, in that an encapsulated space (90) is produced after the pushing-in operation, in which space there is located a region of the contact element (50) having a relatively small cross-section, this reduced cross-section melting through and vaporising like a fuse in the event of a specific overcurrent load, and in consequence providing protection against more far-reaching destruction as a result of short-circuit currents.
