A compound water meter with a partial-flow meter as main meter (2) comprises a housing (1) with connection flanges (11, 12) and a large upper opening (17), which can be screwed tight with a cover (8). A measuring mechanism (2) with covering flap (25) is set into the cover (8). Under the cover (8) hangs a measuring insert (5) and a switching valve insert (6) having a closure body (61) which is spring-loaded and axially displaceable and opens or closes the passage through the main conduit on reaching a predetermined differential pressure. The switching valve insert (6) has, on its output side, a tubular extension (67) having a sealing surface (69) at the end. A further sealing surface (14) is provided at the output of the meter housing (1). The two sealing surfaces (14, 69) are complementary to one another and are directed obliquely in such a way that the combination of measuring insert (5) and switching valve insert (6) hanging under the housing cover (8) can be inserted or withdrawn through the housing opening (17) in the manner of a lift. A seal (7) takes over the final sealing. Inflow openings (9) between measuring insert (5) and switching valve insert (6) ensure that the partial water flow, which flows past the measuring insert (5), rejoins the water flow flowing through the measuring insert (5) in front of the switching valve insert (6).
