In order to break up (break open) crystal lattices of ligand material, tribochemically treated (ground) ligand material is admixed at room temperature, with stirring, with a mixture of an organic and an inorganic acid. The ligand materials take part in a violent reaction with a mixture of organic and inorganic acid, the crystal lattice of the ligand being broken up (broken open) and heavy metals being liberated. The organic acid used may be formic acid and acetic acid, and the inorganic acid may be nitric acid.
