Process for the preparation of trans-3-(4,4-dichloro-1,3-butadienyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxyl ic acid and its derivatives, and novel derivatives of this acid

The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of trans-3-(4,4-dichloro-1,3-butadienyl)-2,2-dimethyl- cyclopropanecarboxylic acid and its derivatives of the formula IMAGE in which X represents OH, halogen or alkoxy(C1-C4), starting from 1,1,1,5-tetrachloro-3,5-diacetoxy-pentane. Two process variants are carried out. Also provided are novel derivatives of trans-3-(4,4-dichloro-1,3-butadienyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxyl ic acid of the formula (V) IMAGE in which Y represents hydrogen or CN and Z has the meaning given in the text of the application. The novel compounds (V) are distinguished by powerful insecticidal activity.
