Known shearer loaders are controlled via a computer. In the process, large quantities of data accumulate which are fed to a second computer located at the surface or at the face end in a control station. A means is shown of selecting from this large quantity of data only the data which contains useful information and of transmitting this data to the second computer, thus data which, for example, provides information on critical operating states of the shearer loader or indicates other irregularities occurring during the winning operation. It is proposed to allocate a counter (14) to the memory (11) of the processor (7) which is located on the shearer loader (1), to select from the available data the essential data with the aid of a programmed telegram length and to transmit this data serially to the processor (8) located in the control station (6). The quantity of data to be transmitted can be substantially reduced by this measure, since now only the important data is transmitted. Control tasks can therefore be taken care of with considerably shorter reaction times. IMAGE
