The invention relates to a seal for socket pipe connections, having a radially compressed sealing ring consisting of rubber or the like and a tab which is fastened thereon, can be folded over when the pipes are assembled and, by means of a sliding agent, can be displaced with respect to the sealing ring. In order to ensure that the sliding agent is present and effective, even in the case of non-specialist handling and/or a relatively long storage period, the sliding agent is formed, as a result of the invention, by a fixedly adhering, thin-walled coating-like or film-like layer.
